Spray foam insulation

Spray foam is the one insulation type we install ourselves — it's why this company exists. We've been spraying GTA houses since 2007, as certified installers for Elastochem, Carlisle and BASF insulation systems, working with Graco equipment. Done right, spray foam air-seals and insulates in one pass. Done wrong, it becomes the horror story you've read about — and nearly every one of those is an installation failure, not a product failure. Wrong mix ratio. A single pass sprayed too thick. Poor ventilation during the cure. With foam, the installer matters more than the brand on the drum.

Open-cell vs closed-cell, in plain language

Closed-cell foam is dense and rigid, and it doesn't take on water. That makes it the right call for rim joists, basement walls and crawl spaces — anywhere moisture is part of the picture. Open-cell is softer and lighter, and it's better at quieting sound — that's interior walls and the spaces between rooms. When we come out, we'll tell you which one your job actually needs. Sometimes it's both, in different places.

Safety, honestly

During application, the chemicals involved are genuinely hazardous. That's why our crew works in supplied-air respirators, and why the building has to be empty while we spray. Following EPA guidance, plan to stay out roughly 24 hours for open-cell and up to 72 hours for closed-cell, with ventilation running. Once fully cured, the foam is inert. Any installer who says you can stay home during the job is cutting a corner you'd end up breathing.

When NOT to use spray foam

We turn down spray foam work, and we'll tell you to your face when it's the wrong product:

• Active roof or wall leaks. Foam hides water problems. They get worse behind it, not better.
• Knob-and-tube or suspect wiring. That gets dealt with first, full stop.
• Spaces you may need to open up again. Foam is permanent. If you'll need access to what's behind it later, blown-in or batt is the smarter call.
• When a simpler fix gets most of the result. Sometimes an attic top-up is all the house needs, and we'll say so.
