Where batt insulation makes sense
Open walls. That's the short answer. New builds, additions, renos where the drywall is off and the studs are exposed — batt insulation is often the right, economical call. It meets code, it's cost-effective, and installed properly it performs the way the label says. Not every wall needs foam, and we'll be the first to tell you when yours doesn't.
Fitment is the entire game
Here's the thing most people don't know about batts: the material is the easy part. The install is everything. A batt compressed to squeeze past a pipe, or cut short and leaving a gap at the top plate, loses a serious chunk of its rated performance. Gaps, compression, sloppy cuts around electrical boxes — that's the difference between insulation that works and insulation that just fills space. The crews we use cut and fit every batt to its cavity, split them around wiring instead of stuffing them behind it, and don't leave voids. Boring craftsmanship. It's the whole job.
When batt beats foam
Foam is our specialty, but if your walls are open, your budget is real, and the assembly doesn't need the air seal only foam provides, batt is often the smarter spend. We'd rather lose a foam job than sell you foam where batt does the work. Sometimes the honest answer is a mix — batt in the walls, foam only where it earns its keep, like the rim joists. We'll tell you which your project actually needs.
